There are
basically two ways to get a product that you can sell
online. They are:
- Sell other people's programmes/products on
commission or as an affiliate;
- Create your own product or service and sell
that. This is the nirvana of internet marketing and should
at least be your ultimate goal, as it means that you will be able
to keep all of the cash from whatever you
sell.
If you are wondering what
the difference is between selling on commission and selling as
an affilliate, it is this: selling on commission isn't available
everywhere but, where it is, there is usually no need actually to
purchase the product yourself - you just get other people to the
seller's website and hope that his/her sales-letter can do the
rest. This usually makes it much cheaper for the marketer
to set themselves up. However, many product owners do not like
this for two reasons:
- Those selling books are usually convinced
that the contents, and your enthusiasm for them, will help
you to clinch your sales. This is especially true for books
on internet marketing, whose authors generally believe that
the advice contained in the product can help to sell it
and should therefore be followed, which is logical anyway -
it is hard to sell a book saying do things this way if you are
marketing that very product by doing things another way!
-
Genuine marketers
believe (as do I) that it is easier to sell something that you can
honestly tell your prospects you use and get some benefit
from. If this is the case then you will be more convincing,
and therefore more persuasive, when you speak or write to your
prospective clients.
Whatever the relative benefits to the
marketer are, opportunities to sell as an affiliate are usually
easier to find and come with a host of advantages, free facilities
and, frequently, access to free advice.
The final distinction that needs to be
clarified is the difference between selling a product and a
programme. A product is something tangible, such as e-books,
CDs, health-foods, cleaning products etc. whereas a programme
is generally service-based. The advantages of each are that
products are probably easier to sell; even someone who is
not a car mechanic may be interested to know about
this fascinating trade and may, therefore, buy a book on the
subject, and who isn't interested in getting great deals on lots of
items (for an answer to this question, see e-bay's membership
stats!). On the other hand programmes, because they are
service-based, rely on people being in a position to use the service
- a programme generating website-traffic will be of little use to
anyone who doesn't own a website (which is about 99.95% of
surfers!). However, selling a product usually generates a
single, one-off payment, whereas a service will usually
generate 'residual income' because they are subscription
based. This means that, if you get someone to subscribe to the
programme, you get a part of their subscription every month.
So, these people are harder to find, but they generate income for
you for as long as they continue to subscribe to the
programme.
Anyway, here are the biggest and best
opportunities I have found on my tours around the internet.
You will also note that much of what is here is based around
internet marketing, advertising and traffic-generation. That's
because these are the big business opportunities at the moment and
these are therefore the items that are selling the most
easily.
FINDING/CREATING YOUR OWN PRODUCT
30 Days to Internet Marketing
Success - by Joe Kumar.
In this e-book, 30
top-flight internet marketers describe, step-by-step what they would
do over the next 30 days if they lost all of their products,
contacts, reputation etc (ie they were where you are!) and
needed money fast. The suggested solutions include several
different approaches to identifying and creating a product, usually
(but not always) an information-based product, and how they
would set about marketing them. Buying this first volume of
the book entitles you to volume 2 free of charge when it is finished
(around 01 July 03), enables you to market them both as an
AFFILIATE, and you also get to ask the author, Joe
Kumar, as many questions as you like for a whole
year.
SELLING OTHER PEOPLE'S
PRODUCTS
Secrets of the Big
Dogs. This e-book outlines a great
scheme and is one of the most honest and informative reads I've
come across on internet marketing. It also offers you the
chance to sell the book as an AFFILIATE and an
option to join its CHIP scheme (click the link to find out what this
means!). You are also able to ask its author, Stan Stuchinski,
as many questions as you want until you become, and for as long as
you are, a registered Big Dogs affiliate.
The Traffic-Jam
Formula. This e-book is a great read and a
mine of information on generating website traffic, both free and
paid. Its author, Graham Hamer is also the author of Bull-Free Zone and ProfitPlan. He is a well-known and respected writer on
internet marketing in general, but famous for his traffic-generating
expertise. Buying the e-book enables you to sell it as an
AFFILIATE, and whilst you're there you can join the
newsletters, which are very good sources of advice on your new
trade.
The FreeAd
Guru. At this site you can get, for free,
Stephen Ducharme's audio e-book which contains loads of tips,
strategies and methods for generating traffic. Not only this,
but you can give the book away and get paid for it (yes, you read
that right!) if you sign up as an AFFILIATE HERE. You can also get loads more
tips regularly by subscribing to Stephen's website, but I'll put
that link in the paid traffic section - the tips give you free
traffic, but you pay for the tips!
SFI. SFI are a marketing group who, when you join, give
you your own mirror site of their online shopping-mall. This
means that you encourage people to visit your store to buy anything
from cleaning products through mobile phone services to monthly
magazines, and each time somebody does, you earn a
COMMISSION. Obviously, if you need any of
these things yourself, you can buy them from your own store and
effectively take a discount of 25 - 40%!! This scheme is
probably worth joining for that possibility alone. Click
HERE to
see what products are on offer.
WebsiteWizard. This is probably the most complete
start-to-finish website package, from domain-name registration
to website design and hosting, all for a single monthly fee.
This is the place to go if you want to get your website online
quickly and like to have everything in one
place.
Clickbank. Clickbank is one of the leading online
commerce banking agencies and offers the chance to sell memberships
as an AFFILIATE. You can also buy an amazing
range of products at substantial discounts yourself!
There are also numerous other products
mentioned on other pages throughout the site, so please browse for a
while!
SELLING OTHER PEOPLE'S PROGRAMMES /
SERVICES
TrafficOasis. This is
a programme which offers probably the highest quality of
UNSHARED leads available on the net. Most
lead-generating programmes sell the leads they get to many different
marketers, meaning that yours is one of many adverts in their
inbox. With TrafficOasis that doesn't happen - you will be the
only person sending adverts to these prospects. You can sell
memberships to TrafficOasis as an
AFFILIATE.
Referralware.
This is a co-operative system of businesses all with good earning
prospects. They offer a unique promotion system whereby you
purchase signups, not just prospects or website hits. They
also follow up each of these signups on your behalf, as well as
giving you their e-mail addresses and other details to enable you to
do your own follow-up. You run this business as an
AFFILIATE.
MLMDynamite . This
website-based programme offers a turnkey (ie
everything-you-need-from-scratch) Internet Marketing Business and
website, with training, newsletters prospective customers (leads)
and tools. You can market the site as an AFFILIATE.
ProfitPlan.
This website, by Graham Hamer, offers a great promise - 'Get into
profit today or your money back, TODAY!'. The site is
extremely easy to navigate and absolutely full of useful links to
informative articles and free products - a very useful place
indeed! You can promote it as an
AFFILIATE.
IAHBE. This stands
for the International Association of Home Business
Entrepreneurs. Membership of this association entitles
you to training resources and business tools as well as books and
other materials which are sent to you each month both by e-mail and
regular mail. You are also able to sell memberships to other
Home Business Entrepreneurs as an AFFILIATE.
There are also numerous other programmes mentioned on other pages
throughout the site, so please browse for a while!
